What we do

Coolar designs solar-powered refrigerators that work completely without electricity. Our patented adsorption cooling process transforms heat into cold by using water as the refrigerant and silica gel as the adsorbent. The system functions through natural thermodynamic cycles — heating, evaporation, and condensation — requiring neither batteries nor compressors. This results in a maintenance-free and long-lasting solution with no need for chemical refrigerants or external power. Our technology is especially suited for off-grid healthcare centers, vaccination programs, and small-scale agricultural operations. Every Coolar unit provides stable temperatures for sensitive goods, even in hot and arid regions. Our engineers focus on optimizing each component for reliability, minimal wear, and cost efficiency. The result is a product that combines scientific precision with social impact — a cooling system built to perform, anywhere on earth.

Why It matters

Access to cooling is fundamental for modern life — yet billions still live without it. In many regions, unstable electricity means that vaccines spoil, medicines lose effectiveness, and food cannot be preserved. Coolar addresses this global challenge with a renewable, off-grid cooling solution that functions solely with solar heat. Our systems make it possible to store vaccines safely in rural health posts, to preserve food for farmers, and to reduce dependence on diesel or battery-driven refrigerators. This has a direct social and environmental benefit: less waste, fewer emissions, and more resilience for communities. Coolar’s approach also supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals — promoting health, clean energy, and climate action. Our technology demonstrates how scientific innovation can create meaningful change — sustainable refrigeration that brings measurable impact to people and the planet.

Our management team

Julia Römer

CEO/Founder

Julia Römer initiated Coolar and focused on developing the core technology behind the Coolar cooling system. She previously developed patents for componments enabling similar cooling systems in industrial applications and worked a a research assistant at the Mercator Research Institute on Global commons and Climate change (MCC) under Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer, contributing to research On Climate policy and energy systems. She has also served for over a decade as a member oft he board at BUND bringing leadership, strategic oversight, and research expertise to the team.

“We are a young dynamic team with a passion for environment-friendly & progressive technological creations. We have the privilege to work with some of smartest engineers and have established a reputation for our innovative cooling concept. We believe in our project and want to share it with the world.”
